Letter from Administration

Dear Sundown Stallion Families,

I am so honored to serve another year as your Sundown Elementary principal for the 2022-2023 school year. Our administrative team this year will continue to include Mrs. Shameka Andre as the Vice-Principal, Ms. Christina Khoury as the School Psychologist, and Mrs. Christina Parker as the School Counselor. We all are thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve the Sundown Elementary School students, parents and staff!

We are so excited for this school year where we will help students to, “Focus on the Future” which is our theme for the year. This is meant to help students have the mindset of growing toward their future by focusing on developing their college, career, and community mindset.

Back to School Night will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd from 5:30-7:00 on campus and in the classrooms. This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers, learn the important information from them about how to be successful for the year, and also enable your student to see the location of the classroom. For the first day of school on August 3rd, parents will be permitted on campus during arrival, but we will have campus closed by 8am so the teachers can get the first day underway.

At this time, it appears that indoor masking may be a requirement again starting on July 29th. We will send out more information as we receive it, but we wanted to give our families a heads up that it is likely we will be starting the year with masks again.

I want to share that we have several positions open on our staff including playground supervisors and instructional assistants. For those that are interested, this could be a great opportunity to be even more connected with the school. For more information and to apply, make sure to check out

As your principal, I again want to share my most core commitments to you and your students this school year:

  • Communication is critical- I will make sure to communicate with families regularly through the weekly phone messages and emails to keep everyone up-to-date about what is going on at the school. If there are changes occurring, I will communicate them as early and clearly as possible so families can stay informed.

  • Student growth is a primary focus- We are strengthening systems so that all students receive the support and enrichment they need. We want to make sure students and families understand where they are starting, what measurements are being used, and are regularly updated about their progress throughout the year.

  • Strengthening connections and engagement with our families- We are encouraging all of our families to connect with the school by attending any events, participating in the PTA, or even volunteering on campus. We want students to see their families and school connected in a partnership for their success.

  • A safe environment for all students- This does include their physical safety where there are still protocols to reduce student risk of COVID. However, this primarily involves having an environment and school community where all students feel safe to learn, make mistakes, and grow both academically and socially-emotionally.

  • All means all- We believe that all students can learn and grow at high levels. We believe that all students and their families will feel welcomed, safe, valued, and supported on campus.

Finally, there are some important dates to remember as we head toward the beginning of the school year:

  • August 1st and 2nd- Pick up class cards in the front office 7:30am-2:00pm.

  • August 2nd- Back to School Night

    • 5:30- Welcome Back and Introductions- Gazebo

    • 6:00- Classroom Session #1

    • 6:30- Classroom Session #2

  • August 3rd- First day of School! Minimum Day

  • August 4th- Minimum Day

  • August 10th- Volunteer ID Picture Day at Gregg Anderson

Thank you for your continued support, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone back on August 3rd!
